About Tailwag Studio
Why did Melissa Kerlin and Susan Schneider name their boutique agency Tailwag Studio?
For a few reasons:
- They both love dogs.
- They both think dogs have much to teach and remind us every ay about friendship, loyalty, joy, trust and keeping things simple. (As well as the importance of treats.)
- They also knew they could provide a welcome level of experience that would make busy clients happy to see them.
Clients like the United States Postal Service and its national network of catalogue vendors and retailers, Pride of Thailand Foods, Jellyfish Beach Wear, San Diego World Trade Center and ELH Enterprises appreciated the creative and project management experience they applied with the help of their talented colleagues.
That experience includes Susan’s 20-years in marketing and advertising- starting as a copywriter and winding up the path to Creative Director, agency owner and, after selling the agency to the parent company of Monster Worldwide, staying on as VP/Southern California Regional Creative Director. Before that her experiences included working for a neurotic (is there any other kind?) movie producer at 20th Century Fox Studios and a management position at Saks Fifth Avenue (which taught her to never pay retail.) Along the way, she and her husband enjoyed being parents of beautifully trained dogs (thanks to her husband), traveling, volunteering, spending way too much time in bookstores, trying to bring out her inner Hockney and splitting their time between the beach in San Diego and the High Sierras whenever possible.
Melissa Kerlin is all about style, quality and efficiency. She is the one who gets things done on time, on budget and with the highest quality possible. She is not only intrigued by new technology and processes, but has to understand every nuance, detail and capability they possess. It started years ago in Beverly Hills when she worked in the newspaper business and fell in love with all things related to creative, purposeful communication. Ink on paper, designs on fabric, paint on canvas, systems and software in cyberspace, she loves it all. Throughout her years in the advertising and marketing arena, where she has learned every aspect of print and interactive product management, she has made sure people and products communicate optimally to achieve their goals. Whether in the role of Global Projects Manager for international clients as she was at TMP Worldwide, consulting for those launching new agency software programs, software products, web sites or apps, or leading the development of Tailwag’s own award-winning product line, Melissa makes sure everyone involved stays on the same beautiful page. Although none of her friends can figure out where she
finds the time, she’ll sign on as ground crew for any sailboat regatta anywhere any time, reupholster her furniture beautifully just for fun and track down the most gorgeous antique treasures and turn them into fabulous gifts for friends and family.
About CareerWise by Tailwag Studio
The CareerWise Grow Up. Get a Job. product line was a natural extension of Susan’s and Melissa’s interests and experiences. Working with employers and a huge career portal like Monster.com gave them a behind-the-scenes look at fascinating professionals and jobs most people never hear about. They also learned – and experienced firsthand from being managers themselves – what employers look for in a new hire.
They thought that if kids heard about lots of cool jobs they might be more motivated in school so they could grow up and get a job someday. “Hmmmm…produce materials to communicate how many interesting jobs there are in the work-a-day world and provide creative ways to explore them while helping kids develop basic job skills along the way?”
We can do that.
Voila! The award-winning CareerWise Grow Up. Get a Job. Career Exploration Workbook was born, followed by a popular poster with 1001 job titles, portable guidebooks, a Kindle book,
and now a fun and information packed iPhone app. With more products in development.
A show of paws for those who agree finding your passion is the way to grow up and get a job you really enjoy!
